WHY WE NEED A REFERENDUM?

Since Alberta joined Canada in 1905, our provincial government has struggled to protect our freedoms, rights, and prosperity. Beyond energy, Ottawa has encroached on Alberta’s ability to manage its own affairs. Sovereignty gives us the tools to keep our resources, grow our economy, and re-invest in Alberta families, businesses and infrastructure. 

WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF THE REFERENDUM?

The purpose of the referendum is for eligible Albertan voters to decide if the province of Alberta should secede from Canada and become a sovereign independent country.
As Albertans, the power is in our hands to make this referendum a reality. We must clearly indicate what the WILL OF THE PEOPLE of Alberta is so that no government, be they provincial, federal or international, can ignore it.

“Do you agree that the Province of Alberta should cease to be part of Canada to become an independent state?”  

HOW DO WE GET THERE?

Under Alberta’s Citizens Initiative Act, we need a minimum of 10% of the number of eligible voters that voted in the previous election (roughly 177K) and 120 days to force a referendum.

By registering your PLEDGE to sign “YES” now, you help us build a list of over 600,000 supporters. Once we hit that number, we’ll submit the petition to Elections Alberta for approval. Once approved our volunteer canvassers will collect the official paper signatures within 120 days.
